08/09/2008 - Session 121 - Players: 6 - Standard Dev: 26.0 - Time: 9:53

A long session after a long break. We played for so long that the Olympics were beginning to rerun events. Allix was in town for the game to start a new winning streak. Mr. Terrible found that the third buy-in was a good idea, bringing back earlier losses to finish on the positive side. Steve returned for his second session. Sheaneen, John and Levi faced off for about four hours after everyone else went home.

06/26/2008 - Session 120 - Players: 10 - Standard Dev: 27.9

Lots of new players joined us from another of Levi's regular games. Mr. Such was the big winner among them, taking down a large pot right as his 20 minute notice was up. Mr. Commerce and Steve ended up with chip stacks that looked very similar when it was all over. Kurt returns to break his streak with a nice session win, showing that not even Jen was going to get in his way. Dan made a brilliant preflop play against Levi by re-re-raising the pot, forcing Levi into an all-in or fold decision. Levi decided to go all-in and showed QQ against Dan's AA. But, a little bit of luck went a long way when Levi caught a Q on the flop and won the large pot. Levi later found a full house against John's trip 8's to end John's long winning streak.

06/15/2008 - Session 119 - Players: 7 - Standard Dev: 21.8

Sheaneen joined us after a long absence, to break her streak. Despite Levi's best efforts at playing poor poker and sucking out lucky hands against her, solid play proved the best strategy. John was at it again, adding a 6th winning session in a row (that's two more than anyone else has ever had). Levi couldn't seem to stop playing good cards poorly, and ended up giving away the majority of his chips on plays that were questionable at best. And, we welcome Kenji to the Starlight!

06/06/2008 - Session 118 - Players: 6 - Standard Dev: 52.2

Old friends were in town. Mr. Stellwag made a return to the table for the first time in more than three years, and did a great job of holding his own against the regulars (two flopped straights didn't hurt). Doug's return was not so prosperous. He played every two cards most of the night, which didn't work well, because there were several of us who had been looking forward to a good rematch ever since he graduated one year ago. Levi and John made out the best with a lot of patience and a little luck in big hands against Roux and Doug. Dizzle even made a short appearance before getting called out and walking away slightly on the plus side.

05/09/2008 - Session 117 - Players: 10 - Standard Dev: 26.7

Session 117 saw some more new faces at the game. It was a late night, and the combination of John's never-ending pairs of Kings and Queenie left Levi on his worst tilt ever.

05/02/2008 - Session 116 - Players: 13 - Standard Dev: 25.9

Session 116 had a great turn-out. 13 players joined for a great night of poker. Thanks to not everyone showing up at the same time, the table was 9-handed for a good part of the night. Allix was in from Chicago, and couldn't stop spilling things on Sanny. We welcome new players Gray and Rick, both are formidable opponents and always welcome at the Starlight. Mr Terrible ran into David early in the night, who then gave most of it to Sanny. Rick was having a good run, until he found himself with the lower of two full houses against Aaron. Aaron would dump his early gains back, and they would later be split by Allix, John and Levi. Ben and Lisa showed up just after midnight, and play continued for a few hours while Lisa proceeded to take most of Ben's chips. Even with all of the players, the game did not get too wild. The big winner and big loser weren't spread by as much as usual, and the standard deviation was relatively low. Most importantly, I think everyone had a lot of fun.

04/25/2008 - Session 115 - Players: 9 - Standard Dev: 32.7

#115 was a regular session with a good turn-out. Returning champ Patrick was on the way to a repeat when his cards ran out. Mr. Terrible and Sanny couldn't stop getting into head's-up pots with each other. Sanny was the eventual victor in that struggle, as evident by the scores on the left. Levi found his cold streak come to an end with late game gains (Jacks full to take Charlie out, and pocket 10's that would later hold vs. Michael). And of course John had Kings about 50 times during the night.

A short handed session, due to many people being out of town for spring break and the holliday. John kept ending up with hands that weren't quite good enough. Levi had his share of bad beats, but a big hand at the end of the night helped him end up with all of the chips.

02/22/2008 - Session 107 - Players: 11 - Standard Dev: 60.0 - Time: 7:51

An awesome night of cards filled the table for several hours. Huge chip movements put an end to Adam's bad streak and moved him +18 positions into 8th. Chris was on hand for a repeat performance of his last appearance (but winning twice as much this time). And Michael proves he has moved beyond the "beginner" label by extending his winning streak and pushing his way into 2nd place. On the other side of it, Sheanneen, Dan and John showed down some great hands that ended up being second best. We welcome 'Duff as a new player, he the an amazing ability to feel a flush from five cards away, so watch out as he gets a little more practice with us.

02/16/2008 - Session 106 - Players: 6 - Standard Dev: 25.7 - Time: 2:50

As per the rules, any game with five or more players at full stakes will count as an official session. And that's just what happened when Sheanneen started talking smack about Michael. It was a short session, but one with a lot of good action. Levi was on an unstoppable run of cards, busting everyone at the table at least once with the exception of Michael.

02/13/2008 - Session 105 - Players: 7 - Standard Dev: 36.0 - Time: 06:35

Big hands were again the order of the night, and everyone who was sitting on the South end of the table couldn't seem to run out of them. This did not make the North end very happy, as they couldn't seem to stop running into those huge hands and quickly ran out of chips. John continued his winning streak with a gutsy move to double-up into Sheanneen late in the game. Sheanneen continued to play well by dominating the mid-game (with a little help from about 10 full houses). Mr. Terrible had a run of cards that was unstoppable before calling it a night and turning his streak around.

02/07/2008 - Session 104 - Players: 11 - Standard Dev: 51.9 - Time: 4:35

A weekday game with great attendance was all Sheanneen needed to break her streak. She went up early on a few very large hands and just kept the chip stacks growing, well done. A very well played game made Ben a big winner as well. On the other side of it, Levi, Aaron and Allix couldn't find a hand that would win, and we finally broke out the purple chips because of it! Now, if you guys could just win a bad beat...

The second-longest session ever at the Starlight ended with the 5 players it began with. We welcome the new players who have joined the game recently. And it is very nice to see some old players return. Congratulation to Aaron snapped his streak with a big win on a great run of cards. John started the night on the down side, but had plenty of time to turn things around and finished up. Levi was up, then down then back up again. Kurt found pocket aces very rewarding when he tripled up against Levi and Chris with pocket kings and AK. Later, Kurt and Michael battled it out head's up for the rest of their chips at around 6:00am - they started even, but Michael doubled up with pocket jacks and then won the rest of Kurt's chips with pocket queens on the following hand.

01/18/2008 - Session 102 - Players: 6 - Standard Dev: 16.1 - Time: 3:12

Session #102 was the regular play game held after session #101. Dan showed more strength in this game, acquiring quite a chip stack before calling it a night. Greg was having a hard time hanging onto chips thanks to Dan, who seemed to beat him almost every hand they were in together. Later in the night John and Levi battled head's up for everything that was left. Their first all-in turned out to be JJ vs JJ, the very next hand Levi ended up with all four deuces, crippling John's chip stack. John played well and took most of it back, but an hour later, Levi ended up with all of the chips.

01/18/2008 - Session 101 - Players: 7 - Standard Dev: - Tournament

The first tournament held at the Starlight in a long time was dominated by John. He took an early chip lead and never gave up his stacks. Dan made a nice run to finish second, claiming three bounties along the way. Official results: 1st John - 2nd Dan - 3rd Derek - 4th Levi - 5th Greg - 6th Queenie - 7th Michael.

01/11/2008 - Session 100 - Players: 10 - Standard Dev: 60.0 - Time: 8:14

It was a very wild night at the Starlight. Newcomer Derek steps into 4th place tying Aaron's record for most won in a single session. We also set a new record of putting three of a kind on the board (11 times). Linnea starting things off by winning nearly every big pot for the first hour or so, then Derek took over with an unstoppable run, and later Aaron had a string of huge hands against Adam and Levi that put their chip stacks into the negative. Michael made an amazing comeback from less than 1 to end up +46. This session didn't have the highest standard deviation ever, but still did a great job of shaking up the standings.

01/04/2008 - Session 99 - Players: 7 - Standard Dev: 27.3 - Time: 6:28

It was a night of huge hands. Quads showed up three different times (including 4 queens on the board). top pair proved to be not good enough for Jing when Levi showed 4 10's. And later in the night top two pair was insufficient for him when Adam sucked out a straight on the river for the rest of his chips. Adam was doing a great job of playing good cards well, and maintained a solid chip stack throughout the night. He wasn't able to fool Michael, though, who made an impressive fold of his pocket kings, knowing he was beat by a pair of aces.

12/12/2007 - Session 98 - Players: 8 - Standard Dev: 36.4 - Time: 9:03

After a taking a long break to focus on school, Jen proves that she still has it. Has what? Flushes, straights, better under-pairs, just ask Kurt... he'll tell you. With only 7 games, she is now in 5th position. 4-5 was an unbeatable hand for some reason, holding up for anyone who played it, and usually ending up as tripps or better. The biggest hand of the night belonged to John, with 4 kings. The new table is a hit as it's much easier to deal on and there is plenty of elbow room. The standings shuffled a little bit due to big moves by Kurt and Aaron, unfortunately for Aaron those moves were in opposite directions.

11/29/2007 - Session 97 - Players: 7 - Standard Dev: 28.8 - Time: 7:36

After a very aggressive start, this session got funny. And I mean that quite literally... a mix of personalities and cold medicine had the house in stitches until about 1am. There were several rounds of high-fiveing, and even someone getting slapped by "thweet thanng". Big hands included Kurt's late game triple up when he hung on to pocket threes to catch threes full of aces against Adam with trip aces and Aaron with aces and jacks. It didn't last too long and Queenie and Levi both doubled-up into Kurt's chip stack before calling it a night.

11/17/2007 - Session 96 - Players: 8 - Standard Dev: 22.3 - Time: 8:28

Doug and Roux were both in town for a game with more monster hands than have ever been seen at the Starlight. By the end of the night Levi showed down a straight flush to the King in hearts and quad 10s. Not to be outdone, Michael showed a straight flush to the King in spades and quad Queens. Roux made an extremely gutsy call against Queenie late in the game to double up and then survived an all-in against Levi when a straight to the Ace came down on the board. Big stack for the night, Eric did a great job of slowly acquiring chips and holding on to them. And, new to the Starlight, Mr. Terrible destroyed Doug's early lead, but redistributed the chips before calling it a night.

With the right mix of people, a card game will just happen. That was the story on Friday night. It was one of those nights when Levi went on tilt early and just kept giving away chips, which made Queenie and Michael happy. Aaron and Adam were having just as much trouble holding on to chips as Levi was, and so the game ended as is shown to the left.

11/07/2007 - Session 94 - Players: 9 - Standard Dev: 37.8 - Time: 6:46

The first game at the new Starlight drew a good crowd. The game was wild, just about everyone who was up early, ended up losing and most people who were down made nice comebacks. The session featured a lot of huge hands: including Adam's all-in win with AA vs Sheanneen's QK vs John's AK. Also John and Jing battled on their last hand giving Jing the win with two pair Q's and 4's. And what poker night wouldn't be complete without Levi and Kurt getting into it for a huge pot - this time it went Levi's way when Kurt pushed all in on a spade flush draw, Levi called on the flop with a straight and no help came to Kurt. Arron finially finished the night on the plus side at the new place to break a long streak

10/26/2007 - Session 93 - Players: 5 - Standard Dev: 19.3

I guess not too many people wanted to be cramped into the old apartment one last time. Virgil was in town and proved he could hold his own at my game after bringing a lot of chips back his way after having quite a short stack. We called it a night early due to moving day and low turn out. Highlights include John's kings being mostly harmful (to others this time, and not to himself). With pocket kings at least three times, and hitting wise men (three kings) two hands in-a-row, he also did a great job of regaining early game losses.

10/17/2007 - Session 92 - Players: 9 - Standard Dev: 21.3

A great turnout for a mid-week game. Aaron was up to an early lead for the first hour or so, before Adam started calling his bluffs. Jeremy played well for a first appearance, but his pocket Queens failed to hold up against Adam, and that was the end of his first poker night at the Starlight. Adam, seeing a few stacks of extra chips in front of him decided to call it a night a bit early to put an end to a streak of bad luck. With Linnea, Allix, John, and Aaron also leaving "early", the game continued three-handed for a few hours. Levi was able to double up into Michael with nines full of aces, but lost a good deal of it back, and also traded chips with Kurt. The three-handed game ended with chip positions roughly where they started.

10/12/2007 - Session 91 - Players: 8 - Standard Dev: 33.5

The lesson here is that a night of playing great poker can all be undone with one mistake. With just over six minutes to go in the game Levi looked down to find pocket aces for the filth time that night. He raised and got one caller, Kurt. On the flop, Kurt made two pair with the 9-7 off suit he held. Levi bet and Kurt raised, Levi quickly called and they went to the turn. The turn made a straight possible and Levi bet heavy, when Kurt raised, Levi reraised all-in, Kurt was a fast caller asking, "You got the straight?". It was only then that Levi realized he was beat. Kurt showed his two pair and the river didn't change a thing, awarding Kurt a huge double up.

Note: the Starlight Lounge is not a gambling establishment,
it is a living room with very good marketing.
This site is to improve my design portfolio, do not take it too seriously.
